The Biggest Problem With pks kubernetes, And How You Can Fix It
This is a short video that tells you how to get started with pks. It is a pks introduction to Kubernetes, the cloud platform that powers much of the world’s critical infrastructure.
Kubernetes is a way to run a cluster of applications, such as a web server, a database, and the like. It’s a system that’s a little bit harder to get your head around than traditional cluster systems, but it’s still there, and it’s pretty cool. Kubernetes is an open source project, so you can use it with any vendor.
Yeah, Kubernetes is a bit complicated, but it’s actually pretty straightforward.
First you have to get the server to boot itself. With a traditional cluster, you’ll need to set up a whole bunch of computers to take care of the actual jobs. The servers will have to have the OS and most of the software installed on them. This means that you have to make sure your servers have a decent cooling system, lots of RAM, a decent network connection and plenty of storage space.
Kubernetes is a container orchestration system, meaning the servers all run the same software. Every server is actually a cluster of three or four servers, or a collection of one or two servers. You’ll then need to make sure the container images are there. There’s no support for running things locally on-premises, so you’ll need to find one that’s already on Cloud Foundry.
Yeah, it’s that time of year. The time when everyone starts thinking about how to automate all of their server management. Kubernetes is great for that. It’s also a system for automating things like virtual machines. The container images for Docker are great for that too, but you can use pre-built images in the cloud. The biggest reason to use Kubernetes is because it’s easy to get your servers up and running with minimal changes. It’s also free.
I got Kubernetes for my hosting account for free. I just installed it and was able to set up my servers in less than 10 minutes. It’s also free on Azure.
On Azure Kubernetes is just a special type of cluster. You can use your server’s IP address to create a cluster, but you can also use a hostname. This hostname is what the container images will use. It becomes your own virtual machine, which allows for multiple servers to share resources. In other words, Kubernetes is a cloud-based cluster.
It’s also free.
Basically, you create a cluster, and Kubernetes will let you manage it. In fact, Kubernetes is basically a web-based interface that lets you create and manage clusters. Kubernetes is great for the DIY crowd because it handles all the management (what you create, what you update on the cluster, what you remove, etc.) while you concentrate on the fun stuff.
