I believe one of the greatest things that humans can achieve is to be aware of what we are doing. Being aware of what we are doing is more than simply letting go of what we are doing. It is also knowing what we are doing and being conscious of what we are doing so we can change our actions so they are better.
The “people” at peoplesoft sap are all people who have the same thoughts and desires as you do. They all want to be happy, healthy, and productive. You are not a “people” in peoplesoft sap but an individual with a set of desires and thoughts. Being aware of ourselves is a skill unlike any other.
People like you and me and everyone else on the planet are all working hard and learning how to be more aware. We are all on this path, but we are not aware of it. We are like plants trying to get up from the ground. If we let go of the soil with our consciousness then we are like a plant that is not getting up off the ground.
This is the point where I’m a little bit concerned. People are doing a lot of what we call “self-awareness” and not a lot of it is practicing the skill. The reason I’m concerned is because the skills we use to become aware of ourselves might not be the skills that will help us be aware of our own consciousness.
Self-awareness is the ability to consciously self-identify with your own thoughts and feelings, or, more simply put, to be able to say with certainty, “I am who I am.” Some people seem to think that self-awareness is just a matter of conscious thinking.
That’s a good point. But it’s not. Self-awareness is also the ability to recognize and consciously name your thoughts. That is, to consciously say, “I am who I am.
I think the problem is that so many people think that this is just a matter of thinking about something, or thinking about that something, or thinking about how something works. The fact is that our thoughts, at least in the western world, are very much based on the way we were taught to think. When you think about something, you become aware that there is a thought going on and you consciously choose to bring it into consciousness.
The problem is what you were taught, how you were taught it, and how you were taught it affects how you think. Our thoughts are often based on a long history of the way we have been taught to think. As a result, if you don’t consciously choose to bring your thoughts into consciousness, they will automatically go elsewhere.
You can be aware of your thoughts and their effects, but what people often fail to realize is that they are not you, your thoughts, or your actions. You are not the thoughts you feel. You are not the actions you choose. You are not the emotions you feel.
People often equate their thoughts with the results they see in their lives. That is true, but it is also a misnomer. Most people have trouble recognizing that they can be aware of what their thoughts are doing to them. The result of this lack of self-awareness is that most people act as though they do not really care what happens to them. They are often oblivious to the fact that they are the result of their thoughts and behavior.
