7 Things About how long do microsoft certifications last Your Boss Wants to Know
Microsoft certifications are awarded to workers who have completed a full-time program, and provide a measure of a worker’s education and skills. The process of passing those exams is a long and rigorous one. The length of the certifications is set by the number of years of training and experience a worker has had. A longer tenure with the certifying body is generally a way for a worker to get a better sense of what they are capable of doing.
I was expecting the certifications to be a little bit shorter. Microsoft certifications come in three tiers: Basic, Advanced, and Professional. The Basic certifications only allow a worker to get an official Microsoft Certified Developer (MCD). The Advanced certifications allow a worker to get the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), which is essentially a pass-through to the Professional level.
I like the idea of a certification that is a pass-through from one level to another. The Professional level is the ideal certification for someone who wants to really make the grade. Microsoft certifications are definitely not that, and so I think it’s not worth it to go through all that trouble. The Professional level certifications are for a particular set of skills. The Advanced level certifications are for a different set of skills, and the Basic level certifications are not that high.
I don’t have an opinion on the MS certification, but I do think there should be a certification level for each skill. For example, I could give a basic Microsoft certification to anyone with basic computer skills, but not to someone who is able to get the Advanced level of Microsoft certifications. If I am going to pay someone to give me a Microsoft certification, I would rather pay for the certification than a simple passing grade.

As I have stated numerous times before, I am very grateful for your support. I get a lot of questions on a regular basis asking me how long I have been a Microsoft certified professional. The short answer is that I am a Microsoft Certified Professional for Life, which means that for the past few years, I have been a Microsoft certified professional.
